I am not much of a writer as you will
soon see, but I am going to give it a try. Vince asked me to to compare
the Gulf Coast Wrestling territory with any others that I have been in.
And tell about some memories of the past. So here goes !!!!!!
I really can't compare the territories fairly
because I was lucky and came south early in my career and met Lee Fields
the owner of Gulf Coast Wrestling. Lee and I hit it off right from the
start and we became best of friends. As a matter of fact I consider Lee
the very best friend I ever had. Lee Fields died June 4th 2000. And I
think about him every day. I am still very close to the Fields family. I
wrestled for Wee Willie Davis in Louisville, Ky., Don Pruett, Nick Gulas
of Nashville, Eddie Graham of Tampa, Fl. Larry Kasaboski of North Bay,
Canada, Leroy McGuirk of Oklahoma and Dick The Bruiser and Wilber
Snyder in Indianapolis. I wrestled in The Grand Bahama Islands, Puerto
Rico and Canada. None of these places can come close to the Mobile
territory as for as I am concerned. The trips were close, I was
home almost every night. All the boys were good in the ring and caused
very little trouble out of the ring. The promotion was great. I came to
Mobile, Al. in 1964 as a utility man, I put up rings, refereed, filled
in on the card, wrestled a few smart mouths before the matches and
anything else that I could do to stay in a business I loved so much.
Next time I will tell you some memories about how I went from utility
man to the Gulf Coast Champion.
