Cowboy Bob Kelly #3 Page 2
Bobby Fields told me about a house for rent close to their farm just outside of Loxley, Alabama. He took me to see the man who owned the house. We moved in and Chris started the kids in school in Loxley. That was three schools the kids had been to, since starting in North Bay, Canada in September. I stayed in Mobile for several months. Speedy Hatfield, a referee and father of the Fields boys, lived on the farm. We rode together almost all the time sometime we would both referee and sometimes I would wrestle. Speedy told me if I ever wanted to get on top in the business I needed to work out every chance I could. I told him I would if I knew someone and a place to do it. He said there is a guy living here on the farm that referees once in awhile, and we have a ring up in a barn. He said come on up in the morning and I'll get him to work out with you. I went up there and Speedy said "Bob Kelly meet Charlie Carr."
Speedy said "Kelly, he don't know much, just tie into him." BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. The boys that know Charlie Carr knows what I am talking about. I worked out with Charlie two or three times a week for about three months.
Next month I'll tell about almost leaving.
