I
hope everyone had a great Fourth of July. The last several weeks have been somewhat
bizarre, culminating with writers block. I just could not
get it together and write anything.
I
have been reading, on the KM Message Board, mention of
Hawaii’s own, Don Muraco, King of Oahu’s North Shore. He
has worked so many of the great territories, during his
years in wrestling. The first time I saw him was in
Portland, Oregon, when he worked for Don Owens Portland
Wrestling, along with pal, Jimmy Snuka.
Muraco
always loved coming home to Hawaii, and his many fans. One
day I saw him walking down Hotel Street, in Honolulu, while
on a break from wrestling. Evidently, he had just come from
a local gym, for every muscle was well defined. His thigh
muscles were so huge that it affected the way he walked,
splitting his feet shoulder length apart.
As
I have reported in my past articles, Lars Anderson was not
well liked, as a person. He was, after all, the Polynesian
Heavyweight Champion, and booker for PPW. Nevertheless,
there were things in his past, which caused him to be
disliked, in the wrestling world. When Muraco worked for us,
he was billed as a "face". He refused to be in the
same room with Lars, choosing instead, to dress in the
"heels" dressing room. Lars had to use a "go
between" to talk to Don, due to Muraco’s hatred of
him. Even at television tapings, Lars had to be out of the
room when Don was there.
Lia
enjoyed all of this bickering, at Lars’ expense. After
all, Don was a good friend of the family, and had worked
with Peter many years.
