---Coss interviews Mean Mike Miller.
He put over all the shows coming up in the next week.
He said we would never see him again after this week since he was
going to win the AWA World title Tuesday night and would have to take
over Martel's obligations all over the world.
---Match #4: PNW champ Mean Mike
Miller vs. Rocky Ventura in a 2 out of 3 falls match.
Prior to the ring introductions, Don Owen put over the big card
at the Coliseum. He said
they were only selling wrestling matches, not rock stars and movie
stars. An obvious shot at
the WWF, which held Wrestle Mania only a couple months prior.
Ironically, one of the men who headlined Wrestle Mania, Roddy
Piper, was in a feature match on the card Owen was plugging.
Miller cut a promo before the match, saying after he got done
with Ventura he was coming for Rick Martel's AWA title.
Carl Steiner came out and distracted Ventura.
Miller grabbed Ventura from behind and held him for Steiner, who
missed and decked Miller. Ventura
dropkicked Steiner off the ring apron.
Miller and Steiner did the whole cowardly heel bit outside the
ring, before the match finally got under way.
Miller won the first fall after putting his knees up to block a
top rope splash by Ventura. Coss
interviewed Bobby Jaggers and Portland Trailblazer Michael Thompson as
we waited for the second fall. Thompson
cut the best promo of the night putting over the show at the Coliseum.
He said he was looking forward to seeing Roddy Piper kick Buddy
Rose's butt. He also said
he was honored that Don Owen appointed him special time keeper for one
of the matches. Jaggers
then cut a promo referring to Thompson as "Michael Jackson."
Not a big sports fan I guess.
Ventura won the second fall when he put Miller on his shoulders
and sommersaulted over on top of him.
The match ends in a draw since there is no time for the third
fall.
---Coss interviewed Buddy Rose. Rose is really funny here.
He says that Bruce Springsteen and Roddy Piper married girls from
Portland, but the Playboy imports his women from all around the world.
Rose recaps his feud
with Piper, mentioning Piper beat him in a hair match in 1981, but he
beat Piper in a loser leaves town match.
---Ending video.
Match-wise this show was pretty disappointing, but it set up the
Owen Family 60th Anniversary Extravaganza very well. Obviously, it worked because the show was a complete sell
out. Of course, with all
the publicity the show got it would have been horrible if it hadn't.
The wrestlers appeared on several local talk shows throughout the
week, and the news had an hour long special about the 60 years the Owen
family had been promoting wrestling in Oregon. A funny moment was when
Roddy Piper was interviewed on a talk show and a fan in the audience
asked why he was a bad guy in WWF but a good guy in Portland.
Piper said because the people on the east coast didn't understand
him like his hometown fans in Portland.
Good enough reason for me.
